Do your unique look play a big part in shaping how a person eventually acts?
For instance I notice certain persons that look similar tend to have similar attitudes/ personas. I have a feeling this is based on what society accepts comes out of you. For instance growing up I've always had a very threatening stare on my face (all natural as well). For some reason everyone expects me to act very serious and down beat. And when I act perky and very polite people don't accept this. Infact I've tried mimicing how my coworkers act but i can't seem to get the same response they get from others. My coworkers however all look very easy going. I'm trying REALLY hard to act upbeat but i keep getting struck down...all my life it's been like this and its making it difficult to get promoted. If this truly is the case, what can I do to change this?

You say that you are acting perky and mimicking others. It sounds as if you are not being who you truly are, and other ppl can see that and are uncomfortable around you because they don't trust you.
The best thing to do always, is to be yourself. If you are perky, and upbeat then go ahead and be that, but if you're not really that way, then don't try faking it. Don't try being like anyone else, be the best person that you can be, and to heck with what others think. The ppl that are attracted to someone like you will flock to be around you, and will appreciate your honesty and intensity. You probably look smarter than your co-workers with that serious look, and they are a little intimidated by you. So don't act perky, just be friendly, complimentary, humble, and gracious. That should set your co-workers at ease and get you a promotion.
